Specialties

Cardiology
Cardiology is often the first line of defense when treating heart disease. We put an emphasis on early detection and treatment because it can help avoid more serious problems later. If a heart condition is caught early, our specialists can recommend lifestyle adjustments, prescribe medications or perform minimally invasive procedures, such as angioplasty, to treat the disease.

Cardiac Surgery
Sometimes heart disease requires surgery to repair the heart or surrounding vessels. Our cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons are experienced specialists who regularly perform advanced procedures such as open-heart surgery (including "beating-heart" or "off-pump" surgery) and valve repair or replacement surgery. With two surgical centers in Marshfield and Weston/Wausau, our team performs the second largest volume of heart surgeries in the state and more than any other program in central and northern Wisconsin.

Electrophysiology
Electrophysiology is the detection and treatment of problems within the heart's electrical system. With a team of electrophysiologists on staff, we are able to offer advanced diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disturbances.

Pediatric Cardiology
Treating heart disease among children requires specialized knowledge. The Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care heart care team has the only pediatric cardiology program in the region and one of the few in the state. The program is staffed by Marshfield Clinic pediatric cardiologists who see patients at clinics throughout the area and provide inpatient care at Ministry's Saint Joseph's Children's Hospital in Marshfield.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation (rehab) is a medically supervised program that helps people with heart disease recover from a heart procedure, improve fitness levels and reduce the risk of future cardiac events. Rehab programs include exercise training and support in making lifestyle changes. Ministry Health Care offers many rehab locations throughout Wisconsin to provide you with convenient access close to home.

Research and Clinical Trials
New medicines and procedures are developed through research and tested using clinical trials. The Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care heart care team is committed to its leadership role in developing these advances. The Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation (MCRF) is the largest private medical research program in the state and provides many patients with access to clinical trials through which they can receive promising investigational medicines and treatment options. Through the MCRF - often working in conjunction with esteemed research partners from around the nation - we have helped develop breakthroughs that have helped patients both here in Wisconsin and throughout the world.

We don't wait for advances in cardiovascular care; we help to create them.

We offer the most advanced, comprehensive cardiac care in central and northern Wisconsin and can handle most any case, with the exception of transplants.
